What’s On This December | Sparkling Bradford

The year has flown by, and the big festive season is in full swing across Bradford, which means lots of great food, good company, and fantastic special events. Here are some of our top picks for this month to make you sparkle.

The Living Advent Calendar in Saltaire will illuminate its windows on Wednesday, 1st December. Each day leading up to Christmas, new festive scenes will be lit up until New Year’s Day. Follow the calendar trail to find all 62 light displays. Download your 2021 Trail Map here:

The Keighley and Worth Valley Railway is running two special trips this month. On the 3rd and 10th December, you can join the Mulled Wine Special at Oxenhope, which will transport you to Keighley for a glass of mulled wine and a tasty mince pie. Then join the Mince Pie Special from 26th December to 3rd January to chase away those post-Christmas cobwebs!

For the festive season, Haworth is hosting a series of special weekends. The Torchlight Weekend, which takes place on the 4th and 5th December and begins at dusk, will feature a procession of torches through the Main Street, accompanied by a live band. A Christmas Music Weekend will be celebrated on the 11th and 12th December, with traditional carols and festive favourites.

Families will love a trip to NT East Riddlesden Hall on weekends from Saturday, 4th December, where they can follow Percy the Park Keeper on his winter trail. The trail winds its way through the gardens, encouraging children to explore and look for wildlife.

On Sunday, 5th December, Bradford Industrial Museum will be hosting a Christmas Crocus Day. Children will get to plant a crocus bulb in their own pot to take home. There will be stalls selling a variety of homemade gifts and cakes, as well as face painting, a Christmas grotto, and plenty of other activities throughout the day.

The Shipley Glen Tramway will be running Santa Specials every Sunday in December. Take the old tramway up into the woods, where Santa’s helpers will direct you to his grotto. This will certainly be a magical experience for the children!

Cobbles and Clay in Haworth is celebrating with a Painting and Prosecco event on Thursday, 9th December. You’ll spend a relaxing evening with a glass of prosecco while painting and doing crafts. You could even make some unique Christmas gifts for your family and friends.

The Bingley Arts Centre has a fantastic Wine Tasting evening planned on Saturday, 18th December. You’ll get to enjoy a selection of fantastic wines which will be served alongside a light supper.

In many of the district’s restaurants and hotels, there are some fantastic festive deals to be had. The festive afternoon teas are one of our favourites at the Great Victoria Hotel, The Midland Hotel, The Craiglands and The Best Western Guidepost Hotel.

The UK’s leading folk and hip hop dance company will perform at Kala Sangam for the Lock In Christmas Party on Friday, 19th December. This brilliant interactive show will be packed full of games, competitions and of course, lots of music and dancing.

Bradford Cathedral will host its annual Carol Concert on Christmas Eve. This lively and festive sing-along event will be led by the choir and will include music, poetry, and Christmas stories.

This month, the district will showcase some absolutely amazing live performances that you won’t want to miss! Sarah Millican and John Bishop will provide laugh-out-loud comedy. This year’s pantomime, Sleeping Beauty, is gearing up to be an absolute riot and Sir Ranulph Feinnes will be speaking about his adventures.

Meanwhile, there will be musical tributes to Queen, The Beatles, and Bond music, as well as amazing nights celebrating the music of the 1960s and 1970s at Bradford Theatres! And you can enjoy a festive season of classic films at the National Science and Media Museum from Die Hard to The Muppet Christmas Carol back on the big screen once again!

Then there’s Christmas Day and New Year’s Eve. Whatever way you choose to celebrate, we wish you a Merry Christmas and a prosperous new year!
