The Shakespeare Nation Group Perform A Drop In The Ocean

A group that came together during lockdown will be performing live for the first time in the Studio, Bradford on 4 & 5 November in a free show complementing the RSC’s The Comedy of Errors at the Alhambra Theatre, next week.

The Shakespeare Nation group came together to share a love of the world’s most famous playwright, initially with online remote voice work and exercises, and have previously released a film performance of the great speech ‘All the world’s a stage…’ which was filmed in and around the Alhambra Theatre this summer.

This new performance, entitled A Drop in the Ocean, features extracts of The Comedy of Errors in a free, 40 minute sharing performance which explores loss, identity, double dealings, reconciliation and forgiveness, with plenty of laughs and mayhem along the way.

Shakespeare Nation has brought people of all ages and backgrounds together from across Bradford to explore and perform Shakespeare, working with professional directors and artists from the Royal Shakespeare Company and Bradford Theatres.

Cllr Sarah Ferriby, Portfolio holder for Healthy People and Places said ‘This has been a wonderful project, enabling a broad range of local people of all ages and backgrounds to come together and explore Shakespeare’s writing with the RSC. The chance to now share their work with a live audience in this free community performance is really exciting and valuable.

Learning Co-ordinator Julia O’Keeffe said ‘It’s been a privilege to work with this group on their fantastic journey. They have supported and learnt from each other throughout, growing and gaining so much from their experiences. We can’t wait to show off what we have produced!

Participant and Bradford College ESOL student Ahmed Musa said ‘Doing this has given me the confidence to do things I’ve never dreamt of doing.
