Combining flamenco, Scottish and contemporary dance, Slanjayvah Danza bring their new show 6 Feet, 3 Shoes to Kala Sangam on Friday 19 July at 7.30pm for a special preview before taking it to Edinburgh for a three week run at the Fringe.
Created by Leeds based choreographer and dancer Jen Wren, this heart-warming show combines dance, storytelling and foot-stomping rhythms to celebrate friendship across borders.
Featuring an international cast of all-female dancers, accompanied by musicians playing live guitar and fiddle, this stunning dance brings to life the story of how three people communicated without words to build a friendship and home away from home.
Jen Wren, Artistic Director of Slanjayvah Danza said, “I am really excited to be presenting 6 Feet, 3 Shoes at Kala Sangam. I’ve been living in Yorkshire for 19 years now. The show started as my story of coming to Leeds as a young woman to study dance, and its grown to become a story about the people I met then and am still close to now. It’s about how our cultures, brought together, have influenced our lives and changed us, how we have remained friends and the ups and downs of our lives whilst both together and apart geographically. Music and dance have been an essential part of that shared story and so bringing it to such a vibrant, inclusive and multi-cultural venue such as Kala Sangam and sharing it with Bradford feels the perfect start for its life as a touring production.”
Alex Croft, Creative Director of Kala Sangam said “Our mission at Kala Sangam is to bring work to Bradford that embraces and celebrates different cultures. With its blend of folk and Contemporary dance, 6 Feet, 3 Shoes does just this. This season at Kala Sangam we’ve already presented a number of Bharatanatyam, Kathak and Contemporary dance performances as we look to become the home for dance of all genres in Bradford. If you’ve ever been curious about dance, our Pay What You Decide ticket pricing means there’s never been a better time to grab a ticket, risk free, and I can’t think of a better first experience you could have than coming to see 6 Feet, 3 Shoes!”
The event also includes a post-show discussion, where audiences will have the opportunity to hear from the dancers and ask any burning questions.
